Castle Antiques and Reproductions is
located in Hawley, Pennsylvania a lovely restored Victorian-style community in
the Pocono Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania. Originally chartered in mid
18th century, Hawley was an important terminus of a gravity railroad that fed
coal products from the Lackawanna Valley to the D&H Canal.
Castle is housed in a restored historic
bluestone building on a hill overlooking a town of 3,000 people. Built in the
late 1800's, the building is reportedly the largest bluestone structure in the
United States. Throughout history it has housed various
industries.
Castle is centrally located and easily
accessible by air or automobile. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Airport, which is
approximately 45 miles away via Interstate Highways 81 and 84. Danbury, CT is 2½
hours; New York, Albany, and Newark are just a 2 hour drive; Philadelphia is 3
hours. Stewart Airport in Newburgh, N.Y. is a 1 hour 15 minute drive.
Reaching Castle by automobile is a pleasant
experience, driving through small country hamlets along scenic river valleys.
Interstate Highways 80 and 84 are major east-west arteries. Both Interstate
Highway 81 and the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike serve the
area - from north and south.
The summer and fall are particularly
inviting times to visit the area. Mountain lakes, including Lake Wallenpaupack,
make Hawley and the surrounding country a favorite vacation spot for visitors.
Autumn brings spectacular displays of colorful foliage that can be viewed from
an old-fashion train ride along the Lackawaxen River.
